JASON E. MARSH

Memorial Scholarship

The Phoenix Iowa Club has made a commitment to support an educational scholarship award for a student planning on attending the University of Iowa. We have made arrangements with the University of Iowa Center for Advancement in order to offer a scholarship (which is matched by the Alumni Association!!) intended to assist a local Phoenix/Valley of the Sun local to purchase books, supplies, or other items needed as a student at the University of Iowa.

The student that receives this award will need to meet certain criteria with respect to academics, community service, moral character, and ethical strength. Jason Marsh was a student at the University of Iowa from 1991-1995 and best friends  with a former President of the Phoenix IOWA Club. After moving to Arizona after graduation Jason was quite excited about assisting with the revival of the Phoenix Iowa Club and starting up the game watches again.  Unfortunately, he didn't get the chance. Tragically, Jason was diagnosed with colon cancer back in August of 2002. Even though the physicians tried everything that they knew, the cancer was too widespread to treat and Jason passed away in September.

He was only 30 years old.

Jason was a person who lived each day like there was no tomorrow, and we are confident that he is in a better place now knowing that he never said "I can do it tomorrow".  He never waited for tomorrow. Jason was a dedicated student at Iowa, a true and loyal friend, and an intense Hawkeye fan. We are hoping that this scholarship will assist a young person to excel at the University of Iowa and give back to the community like Jason did.

Help us work towards an endowment and donate through the  UI Center for Advancement:

THANKS TO YOUR GENEROSITY WE ARE ABLE TO SUSTAIN THIS SCHOLARSHIP THAT PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO A LOCAL STUDENT ATTENDING IOWA AND SHARES THE PASSION AND EXCITEMENT THAT JASON HAD FOR THE UNIVERSITY.
